Emma “Ember” Garcia

Through sculpture, Emma Garcia transforms familiar domestic objects into vessels for exploring the uncomfortable emotions that surface through both internal and external conflict. Working across steel, recycled fabric, clay, wood, and photography, she constructs tactile narratives that question intimacy, vulnerability, and the human need to be seen and understood.

Garcia’s practice often merges sculpture and performance to deepen emotional resonance and challenge how audiences engage with her work. The act of being understood—while confronting the fear of rejection—serves as a central tension within her process. By opening herself through themes of loss, death, family, love, and her lived experience with trichotillomania, Garcia invites viewers into an unguarded conversation about the complexities of connection. Vulnerability becomes both her subject and method—a deliberate act of reaching out first, dismantling barriers through honesty and exposure.

An interdisciplinary artist based in San Antonio, Texas, Emma Garcia was born and raised in Spring Branch. She currently serves as Gallery Manager at Dock Space Gallery / Lone Star Gallery. Her passion for sculpture began while studying at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she first learned to weld and discovered the expressive potential of metal. Garcia works across metal, ceramics, textiles, and photography, blending traditional craft with contemporary conceptual practice. A proud first-generation Germanic-Mexican college graduate, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from UTSA and plans to pursue a Master of Fine Arts to further expand her artistic and academic practice.
